Redirect Chain Checker

One redirect to HTTPS is normal. Three is a chain. This checker follows the live URL and reports how many hops it took to land.

What a hop costs

Each redirect is another request. Users feel it; Googlebot spends crawl time on it. Flatten http, www and trailing-slash rules into one 301.

301 versus 302

Permanent moves are 301. Temporary tests are 302. A 302 that has been there for two years is a 301 you have not admitted to.

Where to fix it

CDN or server first, then the CMS. Two plugins both “forcing HTTPS” is how chains are born.
